Making Navalny: A Graphic Novel

It was an honor to exhibit a selection drawings by Academy Award-winning Director Daniel Roher, created during the making of his documentary Navalny, just weeks before it won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature.

Roher drew throughout the process of directing the film andfilled more than 100 notebooks with sketches and doodles, part of a project he calls “Draw Everything Always All the Time.” He has carried a sketch pad since he was 14 and doodles compulsively. Over the course of filming Navalny, Roher drew his thoughts, conversations, and impressions of people he worked with, resulting in a compelling chronicle of the filmmaker’s creative process and quest for the truth. The drawings in Making Navalny: A Graphic Novel offer a captivating behind-the-scenes look at the process and development of the documentary which examines the poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
